From a Student Watching YouTube to an AI Automation Specialist: My Journey

I did not begin my AI automation journey with a team, a large investment, or a perfect career plan.

I began as a student watching YouTube.

At that time, artificial intelligence was suddenly everywhere. New AI tools were being launched, people were discussing how work would change, and businesses were beginning to explore what automation could do for them. Like many people, I was curious. But I did not want to stop at watching videos or using AI to generate simple answers.

I wanted to understand how AI could complete real work.

That curiosity led me to n8n, my first automation platform. I started learning how different applications could connect, how information could move from one step to another, and how a repetitive process could run automatically.

My first successful project was simple: an automation that could send email replies automatically. It was not the most advanced system I would ever build, but it changed the direction of my career. It showed me that automation was not just an exciting idea. It could solve a real problem, save time, and create value.

Today, I work as an AI automation specialist focused primarily on helping real estate businesses and realtors reduce repetitive work, improve their workflows, and respond to opportunities more efficiently.

This is how that journey began.

Discovering AI Automation as a Student

When I first started watching AI and automation content on YouTube, the industry was growing rapidly. Every week seemed to bring a new model, tool, or use case.

What captured my attention was not only what AI could say. I became interested in what it could do.

  • Could a system respond when a new inquiry arrived?
  • Could it organize information without someone copying and pasting it manually?
  • Could it help a business follow up with leads consistently?

Those questions pushed me beyond basic AI tools and into workflow automation.

I did not have every step planned. I simply began learning, testing, failing, and trying again. YouTube gave me an entry point, but practice was what turned information into a real skill.

Why n8n Was My First Automation Tool

n8n was the first automation platform I seriously learned. It allowed me to see a business process as a connected workflow rather than a collection of separate tasks.

At first, the interface looked manageable. A trigger starts the workflow, another step processes information, and an action completes the task. But building a reliable automation was much more difficult than connecting a few nodes.

I had to understand what should happen at every stage:

  • What event should start the automation?
  • What information does the workflow need?
  • What happens when information is missing?
  • Which conditions should lead to different actions?
  • What should happen if a step fails?
  • When should a person review the output?

That was when I learned one of my most important lessons: knowing an automation tool is not the same as knowing how to automate a process.

The Hardest Part Was Learning to Think Logically

My biggest early challenge was logical thinking.

Automation requires you to break one business process into a sequence of clear decisions. A person can often understand incomplete information, notice an unusual situation, and adjust naturally. A workflow cannot do that unless you design the rules.

In the beginning, this was difficult. I could follow tutorials, but creating a workflow independently required a different level of thinking.

I had to stop asking, “Which node should I use?” and start asking:

“What exactly needs to happen, in what order, and under which conditions?”

That shift changed the way I learned. Instead of focusing only on features, I started studying processes. I learned to map the trigger, data, decisions, actions, exceptions, and final outcome before building.

The more workflows I created, the more natural that thinking became. The challenge that once slowed me down eventually became one of the skills I valued most.

Building My First Automation

My first automation automatically sent an email reply.

It may sound small compared with the multi-step AI systems businesses use today, but it was an important milestone for me. Before that workflow, automation was something I had only watched other people build. Once it worked, I had proof that I could turn an idea into a functioning system.

That first project taught me three things:

  • Even a simple automation can save time when it removes a repeated task.
  • A workflow is valuable only when it works reliably in a real situation.
  • The best way to learn automation is to build solutions, test them, and improve them.

It also made me think about bigger opportunities. If one workflow could handle an email response, what else could be improved through automation?

Finding My First Client Through LinkedIn

My next major milestone was finding my first client through LinkedIn.

That experience was important because it turned a skill I had been developing into a service someone was willing to trust. It showed me that learning technical skills was only one part of the journey. I also needed to communicate clearly, understand a client's actual problem, and build around the client's requirements.

Client work is different from following a tutorial.

A tutorial gives you a clean example and a predefined outcome. A real client gives you a business process with unique tools, exceptions, priorities, and expectations. The job is not to force the business into a standard template. The job is to understand how the business works and design the automation accordingly.

One client later shared a video testimonial about my work. For me, that was more than feedback. It was confirmation that the time spent learning, struggling with logic, and improving my workflows was creating real value for another person.

Why I Chose AI Automation for Real Estate

As I explored different industries, real estate stood out to me.

Real estate businesses manage high-value opportunities, but many teams still spend a large amount of time on repetitive administrative work. New inquiries need quick responses. Leads need consistent follow-up. Client information needs to be organized. Appointments need to be scheduled. CRMs need to stay updated.

When these steps depend entirely on manual work, opportunities can be delayed or missed.

I also liked that real estate automation is not one-size-fits-all. Every realtor, team, and business has a different process. One client may need a better lead-response workflow. Another may need CRM automation, follow-up sequences, appointment scheduling, or a system that collects and organizes information for review.

That variety makes the work interesting. It allows me to build practical solutions based on each client's requirements instead of repeatedly offering the same generic automation.

Most importantly, the value is clear: automation can handle repetitive steps while the agent focuses on conversations, relationships, negotiation, and decisions that require human judgment.

What I Do Today

Today, I help real estate businesses and realtors identify repetitive processes that can be improved with AI and automation.

Depending on the client's workflow, that can include:

  • Responding to new leads faster
  • Preparing personalized follow-up messages
  • Organizing and updating CRM information
  • Collecting important lead details
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Connecting tools that previously required manual data entry
  • Creating custom workflows around a team's existing process

My goal is not to add AI simply because it is popular. A complicated system that does not solve the right problem is not useful.

I begin with the workflow: Where is time being lost? Which repetitive task creates delays? Where do leads or information fall through the cracks? Which steps can safely be automated, and which ones should still require human review?

The technology comes after those questions.

What This Journey Has Taught Me

My journey from a student learning on YouTube to an AI automation specialist has taught me that progress rarely begins with complete confidence.

It begins with curiosity.

Then comes confusion, practice, mistakes, and small results. The first workflow may be simple. The first problem may feel difficult. But every working system improves the way you think.

I have also learned that AI automation should not be about replacing people. Its best use is to remove repetitive work, make information easier to manage, and help people focus on higher-value responsibilities.

For real estate professionals, that means spending less time moving data between tools and more time building client relationships and moving opportunities forward.

My Future Goal

I am still building my journey.

My future goal is to create meaningful work in the AI automation industry, continue improving my skills, and develop solutions that genuinely help businesses.

I also want to help more people understand this sector. AI can feel overwhelming when someone sees hundreds of tools and new developments every day. I want to make it more practical by showing people how to begin, how to think about workflows, and how to use automation to solve real problems responsibly.

I started as a student watching YouTube videos during the AI boom. I learned n8n, struggled to develop the right logical thinking, built an automated email reply, and found my first client through LinkedIn.

Every stage taught me something different.

And I believe this is only the beginning.
